In 2020, four visionary women embarked on a journey, founding AvatarMath, an innovative educationalย venture focused on early Math and STEM education. Their story is one of resilience, passion and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of learning.
A Journey of Determination
The founders of AvatarMath grew up in a world far removed from the opportunities they later found. Facing challenges like economic hardship and political instability,ย their education became the key to their future. Education wasnโt just a path to a better life; it was a passion and an anchor. Determined to create a better life, they pursued academic excellence with relentlessย vigor and earned admission to top U.S. universities, ultimately achieving PhDs in various STEM fields.
Founding AvatarMath: A New Era of STEM Education
After building successful careers in the United States, the founders focused on a cause close to their hearts: the importance of early Mathematics education. This vision led to the creation of AvatarMath โ a program designed to ignite a passion for Math and science in school-aged students. The founders are certain that early Math education is essential for developing critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills in children, regardless of their future careers. These skills lay the foundation for long-term achievements in both academic and professional settings.
What is the Avatar Approach?
At AvatarMath, we believe in the right level of challenge for every student. As described by โthe Goldilocks Ruleโ in Atomic Habits by James Clear, people experience peak motivation when working on tasks that are at the edge of their current abilities โ not too hard, but not too easy. At AvatarMath, we put this rule into practice every day by striving to keep students in that optimal learning zone. What sets Avatar apart is its unique approach to learning. Avatar makes learning feel less like a task and more like an adventure.
Classroom and Teachers
At AvatarMath, learning is fun and meaningful. Their courses build confidence, sharpen problem-solving skills, and spark a lifelong love for STEM. Their Math and science teachers use real-world examples and engaging methods to simplify even the most complex concepts. Through fun challenges and logical thinking, students donโt just memorize factsโthey learn how to think critically and make connections that stick.
Technology in the Classroom
Technology is an integral part of the AvatarMath experience. From interactive lessons to visual simulations and gamified learning, AvatarMath brings textbook theory to life through hands-on activities that make learning feel more like play.
Why Avatar?
While there are numerous after-school Math programs, many are disconnected from studentsโ school curricula or focus too heavily on memorization rather than true understanding. AvatarMathโs curriculum is better aligned with school coursework, while offering a broader and deeper exploration of key topics. Their approach fosters higher-level thinking and problem-solving.ย For instance, you’d be amazed at the range of logical problems and puzzles their young students solve using nothing more than arithmetic operations.
Avatar Learning Center is quickly becoming a standout in STEM education. Their students excel in national STEM competitions and are recognized for their achievements. In fact, Avatar was named the Washington Parent Picks Winner in 2023 and Finalist in 2024.
How to Enroll?ย Assessment and Placement
To ensure students receive the right level of challenge, each interested student undergoes a 30-minute free personal assessment byย one of the founders. This allows to place students in small, homogeneous groups of around six students, ensuring personalized attention and productive peer interaction. These small groups foster an environment where students stay engaged, motivated, and have fun learning alongside others. To schedule an assessment follow www.avatarlc.com/assessment.
At AvatarMath, every problem has a solution, and weโre here to help students find theirs.
