March is Women’s History Month, and all over the DMV museums, libraries and more are putting on events to celebrate the often-forgotten contributions and legacies of important women throughout history.
Washington, DC
National Museum of Women in the Arts: Free Community Day Wednesday, March 12th.
There will be free admission to the NMWA on March 12th, giving an opportunity for community members to explore art by women from around the world and participate in artmaking activities designed for all ages.
March Family Day: Women’s History Month Saturday, March 15th.
Celebrate the achievements of women in aviation from hot air balloons to the space age at the Library of Congress. Free timed entry tickets required.
Tudor Tots Wednesday, March 19th.
Historians are discovering stories of women of African descent at Tudor Place who were willing to speak out for what’s right; even when it was difficult to be heard. Early learners aged 18 months to 4 years old and their caregivers will learn about women who were enslaved and worked at Tudor Place through a group story time, songs, museum artifacts and a hands-on art project.

Women in Aviation Tour Saturday, March 8th.
The College Park Aviation Museum hosts a special tour for the whole family to enjoy highlighting iconic women from aviation history. College Park, Md.

Visitors are invited to the National Capital Trolley Museum to celebrate the contributions and stories of women in rail, trolley and transportation history. Colesville, Md.
The ABCs of Women’s History Sunday, March 23rd.
A story time that celebrates all the joys, challenges and historic forward movement of women’s history in the United States, with a special focus on the Black women, brown women, transwomen and others who make change happen. Takoma Park, Md.
STEM at the Library: Do-It-Yourself DNA Monday, March 31st.
Come to the library for an afternoon of STEM, where visitors will learn about chemist Rosalind Franklin’s important work and extract actual DNA from a strawberry. This hands-on program will provide children with the opportunity to use their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to achieve a result and is designed for children 8 years old and above. Art in the Style of Famous Women Artists Saturday, March 8th.
In this Women’s History Month-related intergenerational program, guests will explore the art of Artemisia Gentileschi (self-portrait), Bridget Riley (op art) and Yayoi Kusama (polka dots) and create their own art in the style of one of these artists. Women’s History Month Bingo Saturday, March 8th.

Preschool Storytimes: Women in History Mondays, March 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st and April 7th.
Ages 3-5 with a caregiver can come to the library for weekly story times, each one covering a different important figure in women’s history. Lorton, Va.
Kids Club at Cherrydale: Women’s History Month Craft Wednesday, March 12th.
