Between the cheers, touchdowns and crowds, a Washington Commanders game can be a thrilling experience for the whole family. However, game days with kids come with their own playbook — knowing where to sit, what to bring and ensuring everything goes smoothly will make all the difference.
Here’s everything you need to know before heading to the stadium with your young football lovers.
Buying Commanders tickets
- The safest place to purchase tickets is from the official Washington Commanders website itself or the NFL ticket exchange. Purchasing from these sites will provide you with ensured legitimate tickets.
- If looking to buy tickets last minute, NFL trusted third-party resellers include Ticketmaster, Seatgeek and Stubhub. However, these sites tend to significantly raise prices of tickets, so always check for hidden fees when purchasing.
- Another last minute ticket option includes the box office at the stadium. This option is more risky because the ticket availability on game day is limited, and entry is not guaranteed.
Where to reserve your seats
- Although Northwest Stadium does not have a dedicated “family area,” families in the past have deemed the 200-level areas as more preferable if accompanied by young kids. This area offers a good view, easy access to exits and a safe distance away from rowdier fans. The prices of these seats typically range from $200-$400.
- If extra space is needed for additional things like strollers or wheelchairs, the stadium offers tickets for accessible sections. These tickets must be reserved ahead of time.
Parking & Pricing
- The stadium offers multiple official lots. Parking passes are usually sold out in advance, so it’s necessary to pre-purchase if you’re planning on utilizing a closer lot. Pay-on-site parking tends to only be available in the furthest parking areas. The prices of parking usually range from $55-$85 depending on its proximity to the stadium.
- These lots are categorized by color and letter, and open four hours before kickoff. Visit the Parking and Directions page on the Commanders website for specific instructions on how to navigate each lot.
Family amenities
- At Gate A and Gate E on every level, there are family restrooms that include changing tables. Additionally, the Commanders stadium offers a private nursing space located in Suite 128 on the upper level. A pass and directions to this area will be available at any guest services desk.
- If your child is under 3, guest services are also able to provide a “lap pass” for free. This allows your child to sit on your lap instead of in a seat.
- The Legends Plaza opens before kickoff and features live music, food trucks and mascot appearances. These pregame festivities are helpful for keeping kids busy and deliver even more fun.
Where to eat
- Outside food and drink are prohibited from the stadium, but options are available for purchase once inside.
- Northwest Stadium offers traditional game day eats: hot dogs, nachos, popcorn and peanuts. These options are the most available throughout the stadium along with popular beverages like water, lemonade and soda.
- However, if looking for some kid-favorites, several vendors also offer food like pizza, burger and fries, and ice cream. These options are generally more popular amongst kids, and ensure maximum enjoyment.
By planning ahead, you’ll set yourself up for a smooth and enjoyable visit to the stadium. And while the plays on the field may be unpredictable, your family’s experience doesn’t have to be.
