As featured on Washington Parent last week, held its 13th Annual Culinary Challenge Saturday at Hayfield Secondary School.
These terrific middle school and high school student culinary teams in the D.C. area won top recognition:
1st Place: Herndon High School (Fairfax County Public Schools) won with their lunch entry, Creamy Dreamy Gnocchi Soup, Dippers and Zesty Sunshine Salad.
2nd Place: C.D. Hylton High School (Prince William County Public Schools) for their Edamame Soup with Brown Rice, Vegetable Dumplings and Mango Berry Mousse.
3rd Place: Luther Jackson Middle School (Fairfax County Public Schools) for their Beantastic Medley, Fried Okra with Mint Chutney and Crunchy Munchy Salad & Caramelized Banana Parfait.
About 200 attendees enjoyed a public tasting where they could vote for their favorite breakfast dish and snack:
- Falls Church High School (Fairfax County Public Schools) won the breakfast category with their Vegetarian Breakfast Burrito.
- Shady Grove Middle School (Montgomery County Public Schools) won the snack category with its Mexican Street Corn Quinoa Salad.
Other DMV school teams participating included Rock Ridge High School (Loudoun County Public Schools,) Takoma Park Middle School (Montgomery County Public Schools) and Woodbridge High School (Prince William County Schools).
