Are you ready to celebrate live, in-person Independence Day events again? Unfortunately, some annual events were canceled (while some remain virtual this year) which may mean traveling a little further to catch a 4th of July parade or concert but after a year of being cooped up inside it may be worth the extra time in the car.
JULY 2
William Paca House Fourth of July Celebrations. 10 am – 5 pm (last entry 4:30 pm, tours offered on the half hour). Tour the home and garden of William Paca, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence! Enjoy fun activities like a Patriotic Family fun scavenger hunt and Independence Day History Trivia. JULY 3
Animal Olympics. 11 am to 12 pm. As we prepare for the summer Olympics why not participate in some animal Olympics?! Can you jump as far as a frog? Is your grip as strong as an owl’s? Compete with the real skills and adaptations of animals and see who is the winner! Location: Maydale Nature Classroom, Colesville, MD. Visit their site!
City of Annapolis Independence Day Parade. 10:30 am to 11:30 am. The United States Naval Academy Marching Band will lead the City of Annapolis Independence Day Parade. Location: Annapolis, MD. Visit their site!
City of Fairfax Independence Day Parade. 10 am. The route begins at 4100 Chain Bridge Road, winding through downtown Fairfax, along Chain Bridge Road, Main Street, University Drive, and Armstrong Street. Among the highlights of the parade are nine high school marching bands and many popular balloons, themed floats, and entertaining clowns. Location: City of Fairfax, Fairfax, VA. Visit their site!
JULY 4
City of Fairfax Fireworks Show. 6:30 pm. The City of Fairfax fireworks festivities will begin with live music from the band ‘70s Flashback. The fireworks will begin at 9:30 pm. The rain date for the fireworks is July 5. Location: Fairfax High School, Fairfax, VA. Visit their site!
USNA Band Independence Day Concert. 8 pm. to 9:15 pm. The United States Naval Academy Band will perform patriotic music followed by the Blues & Gold at the Annapolis City Dock on Sunday evening, July 4th at 8:00 pm. Location: Annapolis City Dock, Annapolis, MD. Visit their site!
July 4th at the National Archives. 9 am. to 4 pm. The National Archive will have in-person events to celebrate Independence Day. The celebration will include greetings from George and Martha Washington, the signing of the Declaration of Independence, crafts for kids, chalk artists, live music and more. JULY 5
Independence Day Parade in Severna Park. 10 am. to 12:30 pm. This year’s theme is Celebrating Our CommUNITY and includes a decorated bike contest for children at the Chamber from 9:15 – 10:00 am, and then the bike riders can join the parade at Riggs Avenue.
