"Flags In". 4 p.m. For more than 60 years, the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) has honored America's fallen heroes by placing American flags at grave sites for service members buried at Arlington National Cemetery and the U.S. Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery just prior to the Memorial Day weekend. It's an incredibly moving sight and a popular time to visit. Visitors may watch but do not participate. FREE Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

Flags for Our Heroes. The Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village Rotary Clubs are once again hosting Flags for Our Heroes over Memorial Day Weekend. To honor local heroes, individuals and groups can sponsor one of the hundreds of flags that will be on display on the front lawn at Bohrer Park. An opening ceremony takes place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 26. Proceeds benefit local initiatives supported by the Rotary Club. $$ Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm, Gaithersburg, MD.

Delaplane Strawberry Festival. All ages (family-friendly event). 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy hayrides, old fashioned games, music, magic, crafts, a petting farm, bake sale, face painting, cake-walk, a monkey and more! Delaplane Strawberry Festival 5k Race/Walk. All ages (family-friendly event). 8 to 11 a.m. Get rejuvenated on the trails! This race is for all ages and includes prizes for overall winners and each 10-year age group. National Memorial Day Concert. All ages (family-friendly event). 8 to 9:30 p.m. (It is recommended you arrive much earlier if you want a spot). This famous concert is a live broadcast on PBS and features a star-studded line-up. Can't make it Sunday? Consider attending the free dress rehearsal on Saturday night, instead. Star-Spangled Sing Along. All ages (family-friendly event). 2 to 3 p.m. All are welcome to join the Reston Chorale in a free sing-along of patriotic music in a salute to the troops, plus children's activities and refreshments. Udvar-Hazy Center Summer Concert Series. All ages (family-friendly event). 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Our popular summer concert series is back! Alexandria Memorial Day Jazz Festival. All ages (family-friendly event). 1 to 7 p.m. The annual event features big band, swing and contemporary jazz music. Picnics are allowed and food and beverages will also be for sale. Falls Church Memorial Day Parade & Festival. All ages (family-friendly event). Enjoy the Don Beyer Fun Run at 9 a.m. Festival with rides, children's activities, food, civic and retail vendors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Veterans Ceremony is at 11 a.m. with the Parade at 2 p.m. Schedule online. Memorial Day Ceremony. 10 a.m. This annual observance will commemorate those who have lost their lives in battle, serving the United States, as well as recognize the brave military men and women who serve our country. This ceremony is highlighted by the reverent laying of the wreaths at several war memorials. FREE Loudoun County Court House, Leesburg, VA.
Memorial Day Ceremony. All ages (family-friendly event). 9 a.m. - Rockville Concert Band and Chorus. The City of Rockville-supported, all-volunteer band and the Rockville Community Chorus will perform a musical tribute to America. 9:30 a.m. - Memorial Day Ceremony. A traditional wreath-laying led by American Legion Post 86, a 21-gun salute and presentation of colors by American Legion Post 86 Color Guard and Rockville City Police Department Honor Guard. Memorial Day Parade. All ages (family-friendly event). 10:30 a.m. The parade will top off a weekend-long celebration with more than 60 parade units including marching bands, drill and majorette units, floats and more! Parade route online. FREE Rockville Town Center, Rockville, MD.

National Memorial Day Parade. All ages (family-friendly event). 2 p.m. The parade, commemorating its 14th year, is our nation's largest Memorial Day event, drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators to the National Mall to pay tribute to those who have served, are serving and most importantly those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while in service to our country. FREE Constitution Avenue, from 7th to 17th Streets, Washington, DC.
ViVa! Vienna!. All ages (family-friendly event). Food/rides 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., entertainment 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., vendors 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A family and community oriented celebration of Memorial Day and the greater Vienna Community spirit. Amusement rides, food, crafts, vendors and entertainment! Wreath Laying. The Presidential Armed Forces Full Honors Wreath-Laying Ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and will be followed by the Department of Defense's observance program in Arlington's Memorial Amphitheater. FREE Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

Herndon Memorial Day Observance. 10 a.m. The Town of Herndon hosts its annual observance ceremony. This remembrance begins with a color guard. FREE Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Herndon, VA.

Gaithersburg to Recognize Fallen Soldiers. 11 a.m. Loyalty and patriotism will be on full display as the City of Gaithersburg joins the nation in honoring all who have given their lives in military service at its Memorial Day Observance. The patriotic ceremony will include words and music to commemorate the occasion and a solemn wreath-laying ceremony. Young Artist Award vocal winner Giorgia Dallasta will perform the national anthem. Guest speaker will be Lieutenant Colonel (USA Retired) Stephen E. Freeman. FREE Christman Park, Gaithersburg, MD.
