Well, D.C.-area moms and dads, autumn is finally here! We couldn't be more excited about the assortment of fall festivals, hay rides, haunted houses, pumpkin patches, nature hikes and other fall activities available throughout Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. Take a look at the calendar below, where we've compiled the region's best fall happenings for your convenience. Addams Family - Musical Comedy. Kids ages 8+. 7 p.m. Spooky, funny, all together spunky - The Addams Family the Musical. Join the eccentric, spooky, fun-hearted Addams family's patriarch Gomez, his wife Morticia, their children Wednesday and Pugsley, Grandma, Uncle Fester and servant Lurch. BOO-stravaganza. Kids ages 3 to 8. 6 and 7 p.m. Celebrate the Halloween season with this variety event at Frying Pan Farm Park. This year, the event is outside at the Kidwell Farm. Attendees enjoy a variety of themed games, go trick-or-treating to animals, and enjoy a wagon ride. Finish the evening with a small treat bag for the road. BOOtanica. Kids ages 3 to 12. 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Children can dress in their favorite costume, participate in a garden costume parade, paint a pumpkin and enjoy a pumpkin treat! The evening will be topped off listening to award winning storyteller Gary Loyld present "Pumpkin Tales for the Young," telling tales that are more funny than scary. Corn Maze in The Plains. All ages (family-friendly event). Creepy Crawly Hayride. Kids ages 2+. 6 to 7:30 p.m. Enjoy a night hayride along the creepy Cross County Trail looking for all things that come out after dark. After the hayride at Lake Accotink Park, warm up by a campfire, enjoy s'mores and hear stories of some of our animal kingdom's most creepy residents. Kids ages 6 to 12. 8 to 9:30 p.m. This nocturnal wildlife and local lore program at Hidden Pond Nature Center features a craft, a twilight walk into the forest, a campfire with spell-binding stories, s'mores and more. Historic All Hallows Eve. Kids ages 5+. 4 p.m. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Virginians celebrated All Hallows Eve with storytelling, fortune telling, fall foods and family gatherings. House of Reptiles and Night Ride. Kids ages 4+. 5 to 8 p.m. Amazing reptiles call Ellanor C. Lawrence Park home. Mall-O-Ween. The Colors of Haiti: Children's Book Event. The Concert Hall transforms into a ghostly sight when the NSO performs new and old classics to celebrate Halloween, which this year also marks the Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) with our ghoulishly attired musicians.
