Who We Are

The Jewish Primary Day School has changed its name to The Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School of the Nation's Capital! We have a new name with the same mission. MILTON is a Pre-K through 8th grade, pluralistic Jewish Day School located in Washington, DC. Grade 7 will be added in 2018 and grade 8 in 2019. MILTON provides collaborative and experiential learning with an enriched Hebrew, Judaic, and General Studies curriculum.

Learning is active, challenging, meaningful, and collaborative. Our students, working as young scientists and historians, investigate real problems and collaborate with their classmates to develop creative solutions. Through direct instruction, small group work, individualized efforts, and project-based learning, students apply their skills and knowledge to real life situations. Our program is well-rounded including offerings in the visual and performing arts, physical education and athletics, the sciences and technology.

Students master the Hebrew language in engaging and meaningful ways, using authentic Israeli literature, songs, games, recipes, newspapers, and other Hebrew materials from Israel. At all ages, they hear, speak, read and write vocabulary that relates to their surroundings and to the communities in which they live, as well as to the language and culture of Israel. Our Judaic Studies program brings Jewish texts, prayers, holidays, connections to Israel, Shabbat, and life cycle events alive through the rich study of text and commentaries, interpretations, thoughtful class discussions and projects involving visual and performing arts. Our program fosters advanced critical-thinking skills.

We focus on the intellectual, spiritual, emotional, social, and physical development of each child. We are committed to our students' moral and intellectual development in the context of Jewish and communal values.

What Others Say

We have learned to ask good questions, to answer wisely, to care for one another, to explore, to believe, to live in the moment and reflect, to wonder, and, most importantly, to feel joyous that each of us is unique. JPDS-NC Graduate

There is some beautiful way this school has of infusing the learning with joy so that the kids are excited and stimulated by what they study. JPDS-NC Alumni Parent
