Harvest Happening

Block off September 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the McLean Community Center's annual Harvest Happening. This indoor-outdoor festival features live entertainment, crafts, games and more. Enjoy the “Squeals on Wheels Petting Zoo,” pumpkin decorating, concessions, Kidsinger Jim and more! All activities are included with the exception of a three dollar fee for pumpkin decorating. Five dollars per person, children under three are free. McLean Community Center, 1234 Invleside Avenue.

Fiber Art Studio

The new Fiber Art Studio located in Potomac is teaching children and adults ages 6 to 99 all about traditional knitting, crocheting, weaving and sewing to all levels of crafters. The classes are drop in during and after school and mixed ages on Saturday mornings. Birthday parties, workshops and camps are part of the programs taught by Anja Caldwell. Next Gen Minipreneurs

Next Gen Minipreneurs focuses on hand crafting entrepreneurship and business development enrichment programs for children in second to eighth grades, utilizing modern life and career skills to inspire kids to make their own business opportunities. The children develop and brand their businesses, as well as creating marketing plans and videotaped pitches. The programs are designed to empower these minipreneurs to succeed.

Bright Horizons

Reston, Virginia is getting a brand new child care center. A new Bright Horizons opens this fall at the Commerce Metro Center. Bright Horizons can care for children from ages six weeks to five years old. The center's curriculum includes STEM labs, SMART boards, touch computer screens and more. Opportunities Unlocked

Online tutoring company Opportunity Unlocked empowers creative children and their families by teaching them to leverage their curiosity to experience more success with match, science and engineering. By using everyday experiences, Opportunity Unlocked makes STEM more relevant and fun. The online program helps improve student academic confidence and encourages exploration in learning.
